In this Krazy Stones collection, Anthony Barrouyer creates jewelry using French coins "La Semeuse" made of silver.
For historical context, it should be noted that the exact origin of coinage is difficult to determine, but gold and silver have been used as a means of exchange since 4000 BC.
As for "La Semeuse," it originated in 1887 and her effigy appeared during the Third, Fourth, and Fifth Republics, and even among the three French models of the Euro. In 1887, distinguished engraver Oscar Roty created a medal for the Ministry of Agriculture, but the project remained unfinished. Eight years later, Paul Doumer, Minister of Finance, chose Oscar Roty to engrave new coins to create "a new coin in line with the new and Republican ideas of France." The engraver used the effigy of the agricultural award, transforming its rural aspect into an idealized representation. The image sparked controversy, as some believed the woman, wearing a Phrygian cap, was sowing "disorder, anarchy, and darnel," while the true intention was to illustrate the spread of republican ideas by France worldwide and the spirit of freedom. This concept aligns perfectly with the spirit of Anthony Barrouyer's Krazy Stones creations.
